I've been wearing Keens for 20ish years now. They are the best, comfortable right out of the box, whether it's a hiking shoe/boot or sandals. Needed a new pair of boots because my treads were too worn to get me up Mt. Washington safely when I had a window of opportunity recently. Bummer! I'll push myself up there some day.Not the most "sexy" looking boots, for sure, but definitely great for hiking the awesome national parks! When I first put them on, they seemed a little bulky. However, the "bulk" is what actually made them so comfortable. They have a bit wider toe box, which I like, but still fit my narrower ankles just fine. They required no break-in period. I used the insoles that came with the boots and they worked well, which is great for someone like me who has issues with plantar fasciitis and other foot pain. Though my feet were a bit "heavy" after 8+ hour hiking days, I had no pain. These boots also seem waterproof. Only time I felt actual water was after stepping in a creek that was deeper than expected and water went over the top of the boot (totally my fault). Otherwise, I walked through some pretty thick mud, moderate puddles, and shallow creek beds and they worked well. Good traction. Not sure how they'd do in deep snow, but I'm not sure these are made for that since they are only mid-height anyway? The rounded toe is pretty ugly, but I was quite thankful for the rubberized protection when walking over rocks and boulders. Definitely recommend these boots. You get what you pay for, and these are worth it. And these are true to size. I wear a size 11 ladies in both running shoes and tennis shoes, and I ordered a size 11 in these...perfect fit. These shoes are extremely comfortable. I'm on my feet 7 hours/day, 3 days a week. I tried another brand for awhile but have come to these. Would recommend.I have bunions and most of the hiking shoes are too tight. This one has a large enough toe box that allow my toes to move freely.I wear these boots all summer and all winter! In the summer, I am gardening and these boots really hold up to the abuse I put them through! In winter, they're my warm, waterproof boots used everyday I venture into the snow.Took my first hike today with these boots, about 2 hours in muddy and rocky terrain. Very comfortable and great for a wide foot. I love that the laces never loosened while walking. I felt they are very supportive around the ankle but not too tight as to rub. The grip is terrific and did great when walking up and down hill in loose gravel. Only 4 stars because you can see on the right foot where the bottom of the shoe looks like it might start separating but I think some shoe glue will take care of that if it becomes an issue.Wow! Right out of the box and these things feel great. Ordered 1/2 size larger (like my running shoes). Headed to Patagonia in a month and these will be my hiking shoes. Can’t wait!Previously discouraged with Keens durability, I tried another brand for about 8 months, big mistake! Came back to the Keen Targhee boot & my feet are doing so much better. These are my everyday. Previously I have had issues with construction after a year or so, but the comfort outways this issue for me.Absolutely the most comfortable walking shoes or boots I have ever had and that's saying something. Worn straight out of box for a 14.8 mile hike through mud ,water over rocks, up and down steep hills. Traction very good no slipping at all and the ankle support was fantastic and never tight or uncomfortable. Laces stayed exactly as I had fixed them at the start. I was in mud up to my knees and so got mud over the tops but that was my fault for not wearing gaitors so I got muddy ankles. I generally finish a long walk and can't with to get my boots off but not this time I would have left them on but for the fact that they were very muddy and my husband wasn't going to allow me in the car! Top quality mega comfy I will be sticking with these from now on I have found my forever boot.. love em!I am a passionate backpacker/hiker, taking weeks for a walk ( Camino de Santiago in Spain) therefore I need very comfortable and sturdy boots. After reading the reviews, I decided to buy these boots. They are good looking, I order 5.5, half size bigger what usually I used, I try them with my hiking sock, they still room in the front, and feel good. However, after wearing them at home, going up and down in the steps for about half an hour, I start to feel an awful pain on the outside of both feet =(. I never feel so much pain in my life in a so short time trying boots.I believe the design is wide in the front and go down slimmer along the boots and with the repetitive tension through the peroneal tendons of the foot, cause me pain on the outside of both feet. This boot is nice if you have slim feet and not wide feet. Buying the half size extra is convenient, especially wearing thick socks, and walking a long distance for days or weeks.I bought a pair of these boots 3 years ago to go walking in the Grand Canyon and they are perfect for my rather wide feet. I've bought many other, fairly expensive, brands which all seem to have a pointy toe shape, and they always gave me blisters as my toes were too squashed together. These boots are, quite simply, the best! They have a rounder shaped, wide toe area which my feet love. There are clips near the ankle which hold the laces while you tie them - very useful. Just like my older Keens, I wore these boots without having to "wear them in" and as with my older ones, sheer comfort and no blisters! As suggested, you do need to buy a half size bigger than your normal shoe size.I am a regular walker and these boots have never let me down, even in wet conditions my feet have remained dry and comfortable. If you have wide feet, these boots will be perfect for you. I hope that Keen will continue to make the Targhee ll as these are the ones I will always buy. My first ones are still going strong, these are new and will last a few years, but I may even buy myself another pair, just to make sure I always have them!Keen boots and shoes are designed to fit the shape of feet, and not crushing toes together etc. These boots are top quality, but as with most boots, they feel a lot more comfortable after breaking them in on two or three short walks. The laces are excellent with a non slip weave. There is a small reflective strip in the woven tape, and the two hooks at the top of the fastenings make the laces lock in. Good toe buffer. The tread makes one feel as though it has some substance and would be grippy, and the shape of the instep helps speed one along. All in all lots of attention to details giving excellent comfort and practicality. I am SO glad that I have discovered KEEN, as they will definitely be the firm I choose in future for boots and shoes. Congratulations KEEN!I bought these boots for my wife and they are a excellent boot true to fit and very comfortable, these boots don't get many reviews and can easily be overlooked like all boots they need looking after I apply 3 coats of Graingers G-wax as directed over 24 hours before I wear them out for walking. They are worth the extra money over other more well known boots do a bit of research on other sites also,These boots will stand the test of time !!
