For me this bag will only serve a few purposes, A. keep whatever stuff I want dry inside the hull of my kayak. B. use it as my pickleball bag. Being in Florida, we get a lot of summertime storms and it's nice to be able to throw my stuff in the bag and if it starts to rain, I don't have to think twice about the contents.I haven't been able to give it a real world water test yet. So I can't speak to the "waterproofness". I know the external pocket is not waterproof, so if you have things you don't mind getting wet then be aware of that. I do wish the mess side pocket was a little wider and taller but then the bag would also have to be wider. Not a big deal but only slim water containers will fit in this side pocket (no wider than 3"). Overall, the build quality seems pretty good. I will report back in a couple months and see how this bag has held up.++++UPDATE 7/22/2023+++++Took it out in the rain, didn't think the external pocket would collect as much water as it did but it did. Mind you I left the bag sitting on the ground (at a 45 angle) in the rain, if you were on the move it might not be as bad. Obviously once water gets in, it has no way out. You either would have to punch a small hole in the bottom to help it drain, flip the bag over and shake it out or use a sponge/cloth to remove it. Might have been better to run the zipper horizontal at the top and have a zipper garage cover it to help shed the water. Still like the bag though!
